My coach prefers his athletes run interval workouts as part of typical road runs. I felt like doing something different this evening however, so I chose to do a track workout.
I think this was the first track workout that I have done in several years. The running was hard, but I really enjoyed working out on a track again. The best local track is at our local High School, but it is next to impossible to find a time to run there. We are only allowed to run outside of school hours and when there are no school activities happening. Tonight there was a soccer game at the stadium, so needed an alternative.
Luckily, a local Elementary School has a very old track, that has excellent availability. The track is a hangover from when the school was a High School decades ago, so it is a very old track. The track is actually asphalt. The asphalt is still in excellent condition, but does have the occasional weed growing through it.
This evening, I had the track to myself. This was probably because it was raining and also the coldest day of fall so far. I soon warmed up as I ran 2 x 800m, 3 x 400m and 4 x 200m intervals. They were not my fastest intervals, because I could feel the fatigue in my legs from last weekend’s race.
Despite the fatigue, I was pleased with my effort this evening and I enjoyed myself so much, I don’t think I’ll be waiting years until my next track workout.
