Interstate 90 in South Dakota is not the most exciting of places to drive. The road is almost always dead straight, and the scenery is mostly grassland or farmland. Driving along I-90 today, gave me lots of windshield time to think.
One thing that I thought a lot about was the remainder of this year. I have the SwimRun NC race to do in a couple of weeks, but what should be my focus after that? Should I set myself some goals regarding the swim, bike or run? Should I double down on understanding and managing my nutrition?
I came to the conclusion that my highest priority between SwimRun NC and the New Year, should be strength and mobility. This time of year is perfect for this kind of work. My swim, bike and run volumes will be quite low and so I will have more time on my hands. I can use this time to get stronger and more mobile.
Strength and mobility diminishes as we age, so as an older athlete, working on these items is important. Increasing my strength and mobility will also allow me to push harder, once I refocus on the swim, bike and run disciplines.
I was thankful for the windshield time today. It allowed me to come to a great conclusion regarding my focus for the rest of this year.
