July 4th Group Ride – A Pittsburgh Triathlon Club Tradition

Every year, the Pittsburgh Triathlon Club organizes a 4th July group ride and picnic.  The ride starts at the local park near my house, and heads north for about thirty miles to Moraine State Park.

The ride stops at Moraine State Park for a picnic and to allow those who are adventurous, the chance for a quick swim. The group then returns back to the park, for a round trip ride of about sixty miles.

Knowing that I only wanted to do half of the ride this year, my wife and I volunteered to host the picnic.  We therefore drove up to the State Park early, to find a suitable picnic table.  We found one in some shade under a tree, that was also near the swim area.  About thirty minutes after we were all set up, a group of twenty riders appeared.

After snacking on watermelon, bananas, chips and other goodies, the group set off back towards Pittsburgh. Having brought my bike to the park, I was able to join them for this part of the ride.  I had a great ride this morning, pushing good power, in perfect weather conditions.

This is my third, 4th July group ride.  I have thoroughly enjoyed all of them.
