My workout today was a ninety minute, easy endurance ride. I normally do these alone, but today I joined the local triathlon club on their group ride.
For shorter endurance rides like these, I often ride on the trainer and just pedal away while watching something on television. This passes the time and gets the job done. Right now however, there is nothing that I particularly want to watch, so I was looking for something different.
When I saw that the local triathlon club was doing an evening group ride at the park near me, I decided to join them. Group rides are great when you don’t have a very structured workout. If I have a ride with defined efforts and intervals, then I avoid group rides, because it is hard to do the workout and stay with the group.
This evening, I didn’t have that issue. I just rode with the group, and let them dictate my effort level. It was quite low effort and that was fine for an endurance ride. At the end of the ride, I did do an extra five miles, and I was able to pick up the effort a little then.
All in all, it was a great evening. I got my ride in. I chatted with friends, and hung around afterwards to discuss the upcoming local race, Mighty Moraine Man. That race is just over two weeks away…
