Apologies for the photo of my ugly foot, but I couldn’t think of another way to display the diagnosis of the foot problem that I have been having for the past month.
I got these words from my doctor today .. “You have a ‘healing’ stress fracture of the 2nd metatarsal”. Two thoughts, immediately entered my mind: I’m not surprised and, at least he said ‘healing’.
As you know, my foot has been bothering me for about a month now and this past week, I became increasingly suspicious that it was a stress fracture. Today, that suspicion was confirmed.
I wasn’t sure if I was going to share this news on my blog. In the end, however, I decided I had to share. This blog is about life and triathlon and this injury is definitely a part my life right now. I was concerned about sharing, because I didn’t want to come across as wanting sympathy. I don’t need sympathy. This is not a huge injury. It has come at the right time of the year and, I am already about half way through the recovery process.
The good news is that the doctor said it is fine for me to continue biking and swimming. I just need to avoid ‘impact’ type activities. I had a brutal session on the bike trainer tonight and didn’t feel my injury at all, which was very encouraging. I am also hoping that swimming a little more often, might help improve my weakest event. I get to keep training, which is all I really need right now.
Quick footnote : My website is pretty basic right now. I chose to start sharing first, rather than spending time making the website complete before launching the blog. I’m looking forward to building the website over time into a useful resource for you .. just another part of my ‘life’ that you will get to read about.
