I finally felt well enough to go out for a run this afternoon. That run turned out to be a little uncomfortable, but it was still a run.
My run took me from my father-in-law’s house, over to the local park and horse race course, and back again. In total, I ran for a little over 45 minutes. With it being my first run in five days, and the first since recovering from food poisoning, I experienced a few small issues.
These ‘issues’ were not unexpected, and they were never going to stop me from running, but I thought it was worth sharing what I felt during the run. I am doing so, in case you ever have these feelings; they are not unusual. What did I feel?
- Dead Legs – Not surprisingly, my legs were a little ‘dead’. My muscles felt stiff and I could feel my tendons and ligaments ‘complaining’ a little, especially around my knees.
- Slightly Higher Heart Rate – My heart rate was elevated a little for this type of easy run; not by much, just a few beats. Clearly my body was working a little harder than normal. Almost certainly due to the lingering effects of the food poisoning
- Slight Stomach Pain – Towards the end of the run, my stomach started to hurt a little. Again, I am sure this was a lingering effect from the food poisoning.
As a result of the above, I can’t say that my run was great, but I can say that I was super happy to back out on the streets, running again. Was it the most fun I ever had? No, but it was still a run.
