It Is Time To Get My Bike Set Up For Racing

I will be busy working on my bike tomorrow.  It is time to get the bike set up for racing Ironman Chattanooga.

I always like to get my bike set up exactly how it will be on race day, a few weeks ahead of the actual race.  This allows me to then ride it several times, and make sure that everything if working correctly.  Among the things that I will do tomorrow are:

  • Install new tires and new latex inner tubes onto my HED race wheels
  • Clean the chainrings, cassette and derailleur
  • Install a new, freshly waxed chain
  • Clean and lubricate all bearings
  • Check brakes and adjust accordingly
  • Check that all bolts are tight at the correct torque
  • Place a fresh, spare inner tube under my seat
  • Replace the CO2 bottles that have been on my bike all year, with new ones.
  • Use one of the old CO2 bottles to check my inflation valve is working correctly
  • Remove the bottle cage on my down tube ( I race without it to avoid the aero penalty).
  • Clean and polish the bike frame (a clean bike is a fast bike).

I have a four hour ride on Saturday.  This will be the perfect opportunity to ensure everything is dialed in.  I am excited… race day is getting close.
