Got up early again this morning to run. This time the ground was nice and dry, but the temperature was way down …. “Real Feel” was 7’F !!
I needed to get the run done, so I went full on winter gear. For me this is a warm long sleeved shirt, my thick running jacket and a windbreaker run jacket on top of that. Legs were shorts and pants. Beanie on my head. Mittens on my hands and a buff over my mouth and nose.
I find that I can run in pretty much any temperature when dressed like this and today was no exception. It was a really cool run. Turns out that all the trees in the neighborhood had been coated with ice. This meant that when my headlight caught them, they lit up like crystal chandeliers. It was really quite mesmerizing. I have posted a photo of one of the trees on my Instagram page.
Seeing all that ice took me back to when I was a kid living in England and one of the stories from my childhood, that my kids don’t believe. Whenever my kids complained that they were cold in the house, I would tell them about the house I grew up in. I told them that in our house, we had ice on the inside of the windows. It’s actually true because we had super thick curtains to keep the rooms warm and the windows were single pane glass, so had no insulation at all. Any condensation on the windows, just froze to ice.
It looks like it’s going to be another cold run tomorrow and that’s going to be fine (well apart from the hill sprints that are part of it).
Quick footnote : My website is pretty basic right now. I chose to start sharing first, rather than spending time making the website complete before launching the blog. I’m looking forward to building the website over time into a useful resource for you .. just another part of my ‘life’ that you will get to read about.
