I thought I would share an injury update tonight. Working my way back to being healthy is a process, just like the overall process of training for a triathlon. Both need consistency and patience.
In general, I am making good progress with my injuries. I think my stress fracture is close to getting fixed. I am getting less and less conscious of the dull feeling in my foot, where the break was. It still can feel it, but I think it’s only a couple more weeks until I will be over it.
My right knee is the bigger issue right now, but even that is improving too. Over the past few days, I have started to walk downstairs in a normal manner, for the first time in weeks. It’s not pretty and I use the hand rail, but it’s progress. The one thing that has happened since I started doing this however, is I have been getting some significant pain in my IT band while descending the stairs. It’s almost cramp-like, but I think it’s just a really tight muscle.
To try and fix this issue, I started foam rolling the IT band today. I found quite a few very tender areas / knots. Trust me, when I found them, I was not smiling like I am in the photo. Foam rolling is not always pleasant, but it does help make muscles more supple.
The bottom line is, that I am making progress, albeit slowly. I am thinking that once I get the shots in my knee in a few weeks, I’ll be almost done. Then I can hopefully start the build to my first race in Chattanooga.
Quick footnote : My website is pretty basic right now. I chose to start sharing first, rather than spending time making the website complete before launching the blog. I’m looking forward to building the website over time into a useful resource for you .. just another part of my ‘life’ that you will get to read about.
