Is Sitting Too Much Impacting My Running?

I am spending way too much time sitting, while at work recently.  Working from home, means that I don’t have access to a standing desk.  With the way my legs have been feeling lately however, I might have to figure out a way to work while standing.

Prolonged bouts of sitting causes several muscle groups to tighten up.  It mainly causes tight hamstrings and hip flexors.  You know what?  I have very tight hip flexors and hamstrings right now.

I had a short run on my workout schedule today, and decided to do it at lunchtime.  The sun was out and the sky was blue, which doesn’t happen frequently in Pittsburgh during winter.

Despite looking like a beautiful day, it was actually quite cold.  Thus, the start of my run was not very comfortable.  It took quite a while for my muscles to warm up.  My hip flexors felt like I had strained them, they were so tight.

Once I was fully warmed up, I had no issues.  Just because I felt good however, doesn’t mean those tight muscles were not impacting my run.  I didn’t feel like I had any kind of length to my stride today.  There is a good chance, that it this due to me being tight.

So my goal for tomorrow is to move around more and not sit as much. I have a longer run with tempo intervals on my schedule.  I cannot afford to be tight for that workout.
