Before leaving for our Colorado vacation, I checked the long range weather forecast. That forecast predicted the weather would be warm, for the whole time we would be here. Based on this, I almost didn’t pack any cold weather run gear.
I did end up packing some clothing that would allow me to run if it got cold. It wasn’t a lack of faith in the weather forecast that made me do this. It was the thought that maybe I would do a trail run at high elevation.
I have spent enough time in the mountains to know, that it can get cold quickly as you go up in elevation. The weather in the mountains can also change quickly. My thinking was that even if the weather looked good for a run, I should still pack cold weather clothing in my hydration vest.
Well guess what happened. The weather forecast changed dramatically while we were here. Today, we had high temperatures in the low 40’s and wintry mix rain. It was cold all day, but fortunately, by the time it came to run, the rain had stopped.
Dressed in my rain jacket, beanie and gloves, I had a great run this evening. I wasn’t cold at all. I was however, thankful I had packed that cold weather clothing.
