I spent two and a half hours on my bike trainer this morning. That is a lot of time spinning away, and it gave my mind, time to wander. During those moments I took the time to listen to my body. It was telling me something.
When you spend that long in the saddle, it is inevitable that parts of your body will start to complain a little. I starting thinking deeply about the messages my body was telling me. There was one very significant thing that I realized.
Sure my quads were working hard and aching a little. Yes my butt was a little sore from the saddle. But what about that feeling in my adductors and hamstrings? It was actually a very familiar feeling. It was very similar to feelings I had during races last year, and during Ironman Chattanooga in particular.
It was immediately clear to me that I need to do something to resolve these ‘issues’ with my adductors and hamstrings. If I don’t do something about it, then I believe I am running the risk of more problems during my races this year.
As I sat there riding on the trainer, I tried to problem solve a little bit. I came to the conclusion, that I might be suffering from muscle imbalance issues. My quads are really strong right now, but what about the rest of my legs muscles?
I am glad that I used my ride this morning, to listen to my body. It told me about something that needs to be addressed. Now I have to listen to that message and do something about it.
