For days when I need to run a lot of miles, my coach likes to split up my run so I have one run in the morning and another in the afternoon or evening. We do this to minimize the risk of injury, that comes with high mileage running. So for me, it was two runs today.
This time of year, it can get very hot during the day. Knowing this, I made the decision that I would get up early for my first run of the day, and leave the second run until late in the day. My goal was to avoid the heat.
Early this morning, I arrived at the local park to see the the mist still rising from the lake. The scene was very peaceful, and with the sun only just coming over the horizon, it was not too hot.
It never did get hot during my run, but the climate still made my run tough… it was incredibly humid. By the time I finished my 90 minute, easy paced run, my clothing was dripping wet with sweat. My run shorts had become so wet, that I could feel some minor chafing between my legs.
I did the second of my two runs today, quite late in the evening. Again it wasn’t that hot, but the humidity was still bad. My second set of run clothes for the day, also ended up soaked with sweat.
Overall however, it turned out to be a great day of workouts for me. I felt strong on both runs and head into next week feeling quite fresh.
