When I opened my Facebook page this morning, one of the first posts that I saw, was from Ironman 70.3 Ohio. The post announced that the race was changing location next year. It is moving to Sandusky. The first thing that I thought of ,when seeing the post was… I need to start firming up my 2022 race schedule.
I have been thinking a lot about potential races for next year. Nothing serious, but just thoughts that it might be nice to do this race or maybe take in that event. One race that was on my mind, was Ironman 70.3 Ohio. I was thinking about this race because I wanted redemption after my frustrating races at the event in 2017 and 2018.
I have yet to race well in Delaware, Ohio. You can read about my adventures in 2018 here. Having raced well this year, I was ready to go back to Delaware and try for a better result. That Facebook post this morning obviously took away the opportunity to get redemption, but it also got me thinking. Sandusky is a great location for a race.
There used to be a non-Ironman branded race in Sandusky and I had read about it early in my triathlon career. I liked the idea of doing the race, and then spending some time at nearby Cedar Point; my favorite theme park. Unfortunately, that local race went out of business, before I could do it. Now I have a second chance.
I am sure that this will be a popular race next year. New locations for Ironman races often sell out, and usually do so, quickly. This means, that if I want to include Ironman 70.3 Ohio in my 2022 race schedule, I am going to have to make some decisions in the next day or so. It is time to do some planning.
