My workout schedule for tomorrow has two sessions planned; a run and a swim. All day today however, I have been dealing with an issue with my left ear. I am concerned that it might be infected.
If I wake up tomorrow, and my ear is still hurting, then there is no way I will go swimming. I will visit the doctor to find out what is going on. I have suffered ear infections all of my life, and they typically require antibiotics to fix them.
An ear infection will not stop me from working out; it will just stop me swimming. I will do my scheduled run tomorrow and I will add in a strength session, to replace the swim.
I have been lifting for several weeks now, so it is probably time for me to re-evaluate my ‘One Rep Max’. The ‘One Rep Max’ is the weightlifting equivalent to Functional Threshold Power on the bike or threshold pace while running. It is a value that can be used to guide training. You can read all about it in this post, that I made about a year ago.
I guess my key message today is to stay flexible with your workout schedule. If your circumstances dictate a change to your schedule, then go with the flow and don’t stress about it.
