My last triathlon race was exactly a year a year ago today. That race was Ironman Wisconsin, and it was probably the best race I have completed so far.
Having finished the 2019 race season on a high, I went into the winter, full of excitement about building on that result and getting ready for 2020. In 2020, I was planning on doing two 70.3 races and another full Ironman.
Aside from a stress fracture in my foot, which kept me away from running for ten weeks, I had a fantastic winter training season. My swim was developing well and I was getting stronger on the bike.
Then the pandemic hit and my whole race season gradually drifted away, as one race after another got cancelled. I ended up deferring every 2020 race that I had signed up for, to 2021.
Up until a few weeks ago, I didn’t think I would do a single triathlon race in 2020. Then came word that a local sprint distance race, Mighty Moraine Man, had the approval to go ahead.
So after over a year, I will once again toe the line this coming Saturday. I typically use sprint distance races as hard training days, as I prepare for the long distance events, that are my usual focus. This race is going to be different however. I am tapering slightly for it and plan on going all out. I have nothing else on the calendar, that I need to hold back for.
I am so excited to race again and can’t wait to express my gratitude to the race director, for persevering and making this event happen.
