I took another break from standard triathlon training today, as part of the directive from my coach to take six such “days off” during December. That doesn’t mean that I just sat around and did nothing.
At lunchtime, my wife and I put on our winter coats, and went for a walk in the neighborhood. The weather was cold but not freezing, and I really enjoyed the thirty minute walk that we did. Then after work, I did a strength training session, lifting weights in the basement.
These ‘days off’ are not meant to be complete physical breaks away from exercise, although they can be that too, if that is what I want. What they are really designed to do, is to give me a break from the mental grind of either swimming, biking or running every day. We all need a mental break and reset occasionally.
I have a run tomorrow and now I am excited to do it. I am going to have to rise early to get it done however, because we are forecasted to get quite a bit of snow late tomorrow. I want to get the run done before the snow comes and avoid that treadmill run, that I managed to avoid yesterday.
