Staying adequately fueled, when training volume increases, is very important. I need energy to ensure that my workouts are effective. I always make sure to eat good meals, but I also find my self snacking more.
Choosing good healthy snacks can sometimes be a challenge. It is so easy to reach for a large bags of chips, some cookies or a donut. While eating these snacks occasionally is perfectly fine, I usually feel better with something a little less processed.
Recently, I have become almost addicted to dates as a snack. They are sugary sweet but also quite high in fiber, which helps satiate my hunger. A mixture of dates and nuts is particularly good for me, and also very enjoyable.
When I am snacking more, I also like to make rice pudding. I found this a great way to add carbohydrates to my diet, especially when I am getting ready for a race. I will be making a batch of rice pudding this evening and am thinking a combination this, together with chopped dates, will be fantastic.
