This morning, I was struggling to decide whether to go to the lake to swim, or whether to the head to the gym. It was then, that my wife reminded me of a third option. Now that I am retired from work, I can take advantage of adult lap swim time at our neighborhood pool.
I was able to gently get myself back into training mode today, with a 2,000 yard ‘choice’ swim. I chose to do 20 x 100 yards at a steady pace. Even though this shouldn’t have been a demanding swim, I still found it tiring. Clearly, I am still very fatigued, from this past weekend’s race.
Swimming in the neighborhood pool was great. The water quality is fantastic, and breathing fresh air was a nice change from the stale air in the gym pool. Also, when the sun came out, i was nice to feel it’s warmth on my back.
This pool is available for lap swimming, every day from 11:am to noon. It is less than five minutes from home, and so I am thinking that I might use it for ‘extra’ swim workouts. My longer swim workouts take more than an hour to complete, so I will have to go to the gym for those. If however, I supplement these scheduled workouts with extra swims, I am hoping that I can improve my weakest triathlon discipline.
It was so good to discover an extra benefit of being retired from work. Now I just need the weather to cooperate.
