Just four days ago, I wrote a blog post about needing to swim a lot more. Little did I know, circumstances would dictate that my desire would come true so soon.
In the early hours of Monday morning, I woke up with severe pain down the outside of my right leg. It was so painful that I couldn’t get back to sleep. Eventually, I forced myself out of bed and immediately realized that something was not right.
The IT Band on my right leg was very stiff and there was considerable pain on the outside of my knee. The area by the knee was very tender, when I touched it. Classic symptoms of IT Band Syndrome.
Yesterday, I had a swim and a run scheduled. I ruled out the run straight away, but did manage to get my swim workout done. Surprisingly, I felt no pain at all in my leg while swimming.
Today, my leg feels a little better, and I have been working hard, doing a bunch of rehabilitation exercises. I have made the decision to stop running and biking until this issue is fixed. That means I am going to be at the pool every day, for the foreseeable future.
When all I can do is swim, I swim. My swim today went really well and I enjoyed it. Hopefully, as I now start to swim a lot more, I will continue to enjoy it, and also hopefully get stronger in the water in the process.
