As you know, I am an endurance sports coach and also a triathlete. Even though I am a certified coach, people are often surprised to hear, that I still pay for a coach for my personal training. Why do I have my own coach?
One reason is to have someone look at my training and make decisions, that I might be reluctant to make. There was a perfect example of that this morning. If you have been following my blog recently, you will know that I have been struggling with fatigue. I have felt this way for a number of weeks now, and I am only slowly improving. Even with a relatively light work load, I am still not feeling strong.
The message above arrived on my phone this morning. It was my coach telling me to take the day off from working out. I think deep down, I knew that I needed more rest, but I couldn’t bring myself to pull the trigger and stop working out. This is why I have a coach. He knows me well enough, to know when to pull the trigger for me.
The other big reason I have a coach, is so I can learn from him. It is interesting to see how he coaches me, and this in turn helps me, when it comes to coaching my athletes. I love any opportunity to learn and with my own coach, I get first hand experience too.
I am not sure how a full day of rest will help with my recovery, but it certainly cannot hurt. Today was going to be a hard training day, so I am much better off with rest. I have a bike workout tomorrow and then another full day of rest on Friday. Fingers crossed that this does the trick, and I can head out for a long ride on Saturday.
