I Chose To Take A Day Off

Taking an unscheduled day off from training can be a wonderful thing.

My workout schedule had me doing a 35 minute run today.  As a result of the pain I’m feeling in my foot, I knew that I wouldn’t be doing that run.  Instead, I had made my mind up to do an easy, one hour ride on my bike.  I decided this yesterday and also thought that it made sense, when I woke up this morning.

As the day progressed however, the thought of taking a ‘day off’ came into my mind and the more I thought about it, the more it made sense.  I rarely take an unscheduled day off.  I maybe take half a dozen of them a year, and most of those, are kind of forced by illness.  I have learnt over the past year or so however, that taking a day off when your body needs it, is a very good thing.

So today, I put my feet up and forgot about working out. I did do the strength challenges, that I am doing with my run club, but that only takes ten minutes right now.

As I get ready to head to bed, I am now really looking forward to tomorrow’s bike ride.  I will most likely wake up feeling refreshed and ready to go and that is the beauty of an unscheduled day off…

Quick footnote :  My website is pretty basic right now.  I chose to start sharing first, rather than spending time making the website complete before launching the blog.  I’m looking forward to building the website over time into a useful resource for you .. just another part of my ‘life’ that you will get to read about.
