In yesterday’s blog post, I talked about my desire to increase mobility and become more flexible. Today, I started to discover, just how far I have to go.
Within the book Becoming A Supple Leopard by Dr. Kelly Starrett, there are a series of quick tests to evaluate your range of motion. With my current injuries, I cannot do many of these tests right now. The results for the one or two I was able to do were however, quite eye opening. I am not close to being a supple leopard.
What those few tests did do however, was get me even more motivated to adopt the approach that the book recommends. The books essentially promotes, the simple act of spending 15 minutes a day, working on your mobility. It should be a routine for the rest of your life.
Progress will be slow but the rewards are potentially very big. Fewer injuries and better performance. Those sound like a win to me. I can surely find fifteen minutes a day to do this.
Firstly, I need to focus on getting over my injuries. Progress is slow on that front too, but I’m getting really fired up for when I am healthy again.
Quick footnote : My website is pretty basic right now. I chose to start sharing first, rather than spending time making the website complete before launching the blog. I’m looking forward to building the website over time into a useful resource for you .. just another part of my ‘life’ that you will get to read about.
