I ride my bike indoors on the trainer for about two thirds of my total miles. When I ride inside I sweat a lot, even though I ride with a monster fan trying to keep me cool. All that sweat is a potential issue, when it comes to stopping corrosion of critical bikes parts.
A lot of sweat falls from my head and lands in the area of my front end and headset. In order to try and stop the sweat getting into my headset, I have resorted to the set up in today’s photo.
Firstly, I use packaging shrink wrap, to surround the whole area around the stem and headset. Then, I place a small towel over the top of the whole area. Two years ago, when I first got my trainer, I just used a towel and it didn’t protect my upper headset bearing. I had to replace it in the spring before riding outside.
Hopefully, this set up has worked a little better. I’ll be checking out the bearings, as part of the upgrade to my whole cockpit. That process will start next week, so I will know the answer shortly.
I’m interested to know how others deal with sweat on the trainer. Let me know in the comments section, if you have any good tips.
Quick footnote : My website is pretty basic right now. I chose to start sharing first, rather than spending time making the website complete before launching the blog. I’m looking forward to building the website over time into a useful resource for you .. just another part of my ‘life’ that you will get to read about.
