The flare up of gout, that I wrote about yesterday, got a little worse today. It has developed to the point, that it has impacted my workouts. I chose not to do my short run today and I cut my bike session a little short. For now I am focusing on getting healthy, and I am hoping that tart cherry juice will help.
Tart cherry juice is full of great nutrients. It also contains anthocyanins, which are the pigments, that give the juice its dark red color. The anthocyanins, which are antioxidants, are believed to have a beneficial impact on many things, including the symptoms of gout.
Like most ‘supplements’ however, the studies done are largely indicative, rather than definitive. Nonetheless, the evidence is quite favorable when it comes to fighting gout. I am therefore drinking a decent amount of it. Luckily, I quite like the taste.
Tart cherry juice has also been indicated to help other areas that would benefit endurance athletes. It is thought to improve sleep, aid better recovery after exercise and help build a stronger immune system.
My research has found other things to help gout, and this has resulted in me cutting several things from my diet. I have also started to incorporate another gout fighting food… celery seeds. The seeds are bitter to eat, so I make a tea out of them, and drink it regularly throughout the day.
I am hoping that the actions I am taking, will fix my gout flare up quickly. I am not the kind of person who likes missing workouts.
