So excited to be heading back to Hanging Rock State Park in North Carolina, to race at SwimRun NC. What makes it more exciting, is the fact that I am heading back with a new partner, my wife, Sarah.
I absolutely loved this race, last year. I did the race to enjoy the experience and not to try and win. This is going to be the same this year. The journey to the race will also be fun, as Sarah and I train together over the summer. It will fun getting back to running trails, although doing so with wet feet isn’t ideal..
I just re-read my race report from last year’s race. The course this year is very similar, but has an extra mile of running near the second waterfall climb. The race sounds super challenging, but the way it is broken up into small runs and swims, makes it much less mentally challenging. Getting to mile 20 of a marathon, only to realize you have 6.2 more miles to go, is tough mentally. I never got that same feeling at SwimRun NC.
I am sure I will write many blog posts about training for this race in the coming weeks. For now however, I am focused on my ‘A’ race for the year. Ironman 70.3 Musselman in three week’s time.
