My coach usually schedules one very hard workout on the bike for me each week. This week is no exception, and I got to do that hard workout today.
After a short warm up, I was scheduled to do the following four intervals, with only two minutes of recovery between each one. The intervals were:
- 10 Minutes @ 90-95% FTP
- 8 Minutes @ 95-100% FTP
- 6 Minutes @ 100-105% FTP
- 6 Minutes @ 100-105% FTP
To be honest, going into the workout, I wasn’t sure I would be able to hold those power numbers. Those are some long intervals within my threshold power zone.
After completing the ten minute interval, I was feeling quite good, and started to believe that I would get through the workout. I was still feeling good after the eight minute interval. It was then that I knew, that I would be able to suffer through the remainder of the workout, which I was able to do so.
I may have sweated a lot, but I got through the workout, and still felt like I had something in reserve. It is always a good feeling, to have worked very hard and not be completely and utterly shelled.
My coach typically schedules a hard run session each week too. I get to do that tomorrow.
