After my legs felt tight during Ironman 70.3 Oceanside, I have committed to increasing the mobility and suppleness of my leg muscles. The daily use of foam rollers is part of that commitment.
I think it is going to take many weeks to improve mobility and suppleness. In fact, I haven’t yet noticed any improvement. During my easy run this evening, my legs had the exact same ‘tight’ feeling, that I experienced in my race. In addition, I am sure my legs are still a little fatigued.
Finding time to use the foam rollers is one challenge. I have discovered however, that it is easy to use them while watching television. That is assuming, I am not watching something that requires me to focus on the details. Rolling over tight spots in my muscles is quite painful, and when I do so, I am easily distracted from whatever program I am watching.
Working on mobility is something I have previously struggled to maintain. I talked about being committed to it in this blog post, from over two years ago. I didn’t make it a habit back then. Hopefully, I can do that this time around.
