A day after climbing through waterfalls, running up and down a mountain, and swimming in frigid water at SwimRun NC, I am feeling great.
Physically, I am doing well after this race. The arches of my feet are a little sore. Aside from that, my muscles and tendons are feeling good. I do have a few minor scratches, but I don’t see how you can do a SwimRun race like this, and not get scratched up a little.
My largest scratch is on my forehead. I picked it up while climbing up the waterfall in the photograph. A little further downstream, we had to negotiate the lower falls. The beginning of those falls were covered with rhododendron bushes. In scrambling through these bushes, I scratched my head on a sharp branch. I was bleeding quite a lot, and am surprised that I can’t see blood in the photograph.
Mentally, I am doing even better. I am so happy right now. Who knew that climbing through waterfalls and freezing during a swim, could be so much fun? I will start writing my race report tomorrow. It will be a few days before it gets published. This is because I will be waiting for more photographs from the race.
There were several photographers out there yesterday. The race organizers share the race photos for free with participants (unless they are used for commercial purposes). The scenery at the race was fantastic and the fall foliage was peaking. I am hoping therefore, that there will be some fantastic pictures of my teammate and I.
