What a beautiful morning. I got up early for my run, and when I went outside, the sky was blue and there wasn’t a cloud in sight. There was dew on the grass and the birds were singing.
I had new workout to do this morning. It was a 50 minute run, broken down into two sections. The first 20 minutes were just a Zone 2 run to warm up. This was followed by 30 minutes, where every minute consisted of a 10 second sprint and 50 seconds of recovery running.
Going into the run, I thought that the 30 minutes of sprinting intervals would be really hard and uncomfortable. I was surprised to find however, that this was not the case. Sprinting for 10 seconds was a short enough interval, that I never got anaerobic, and the 50 seconds recovery was plenty of time to prepare for the next sprint.
I ended up really enjoying the run. I felt like I ran fast and yet, my perceived effort was relatively low for the average pace I achieved. I have a suspicion that I will have more of these runs in the future. I also suspect however, that the sprint intervals will get longer and the recovery time shorter. If this happens, the runs will become more uncomfortable, but they will also become more beneficial!
