I worked up a sweat today. Day two of my big training week, was an intensity day. I had hard workouts on both the run and the bike. My legs are burning a little this evening, so I’ll be hitting my Normatec recovery boots after writing this blog.
This morning was my run. It was a fifty minute run, with some threshold intervals. I ran these intervals fast. They were very short, so I ran them just a little quicker than my 5K race pace. Here is the structure of the run:
- 30 minutes Easy to wam up
- 3 x 2 Minute intervals at threshold pace with 1 minute recovery between
- 11 minutes Easy to cool down.
On paper, this run doesn’t look hard, but because I really pushed the intervals, it was tough; especially on my lungs.
My bike workout this afternoon was also tough, but not so much with the breathing. It was more of a challenge for my legs, and I really did challenge them. Here is the workout.
- 15 minutes warm up at ~60% of FTP
- 10 minutes active cycling at ~70% of FTP
- 6 x 4 minutes hard at ~85-95% of FTP with 2 minutes recovery between
- 9 minutes cool down at ~50% FTP
So, day two of my week involved two hours of working out, and lots of hard work. I follow a polarized approach to training, which means going hard on hard days. I went hard today and it feels good.
