With a long run, and a quick swim in the pool, day seven is over and my big week is complete. I successfully completed all of the workouts that were scheduled, and am now resting up ahead of next week. What do I have next week? … An even bigger week!!
Day seven consisted of a long, easy paced run, and a relatively short, steady swim in the pool. Both workouts went really well, especially considering the fatigue built up over the past few days.
My long run was two hours long. It was an ‘easy paced’ endurance run, designed to be done at low effort. That is exactly what I did. I ran at the local park for two hours. What shocked me however, was how good I felt. My legs felt really good right up until about the last ten minutes of the run. What shocked me even more was my pace. I didn’t push it at all. I just relaxed and ran. My average pace ended up being equivalent to the Boston Marathon qualifying pace for my new age group. I was stunned.
After a quick lunch and a short rest, my wife and I headed to LA Fitness for a swim. My swim was a simple set of 20 x 100 yards at easy / steady effort. Once again, I embraced the desired effort level. I ended up very happy with my swim. My pace was typical for me, and I held it through to the end of the session.
So that is a typical big week of training complete. I hope you have enjoyed following along. I ended up working out for just over 14 hours. My totals for the week were: 8,400 yards of swimming, over a hundred miles of biking and almost 32 miles of running. All of it was fun!!
