During my recent vacation, my weekly training volume was reduced significantly. It was very low for me, and I averaged less than four hours of working out for the three weeks I was away. Now that I am back home, I have returned to full training, and this is a huge training week.
After three days of workouts, I am already at a total time of four hours and forty minutes. That is more hours of working out than I have done for any of the past three weeks. By the end of the week, I should have completed well over twelve hours of training.
It is not just the training volume that is increasing this week. The training intensity has also kicked up a notch. Today was a good example of the intensity I am dealing with. I started with a technical swim session, that resulted in one of my fastest swim sessions ever. Then, this afternoon, I ran for an hour. This run included two, ten minute intervals at threshold pace.
My legs are feeling it a little this evening. I still think there is a little bit of residual fatigue from my Malvern Hills end-to-end run, just over a week ago. This fatigue is only going to build as I move through my training week, but I am excited by the challenge. It is just over six weeks until Ironman 70.3 Oceanside. It is time to put in the work, if I want to see the results in the race.
