Completing My Scheduled Workouts Was Tough Today

I am at that stage of Ironman training, where I am deep into a big block of workouts. At this point, accumulated fatigue kicks in, and on some days, it can be tough to complete your scheduled workouts.

Today was one of those days.  I had intended to get up early in order to do my run before the heat of the day.  When I awoke however, my legs felt very tired.  I could still feel the after affects of the hard bike workout, that I had completed yesterday evening.  I chose to stay in bed for an extra hour and move my run to this evening.  In hindsight, this was a mistake.

Late morning I went to the pool, to get my swim workout done.  I managed to complete it, but I can’t say I swam effectively.  I felt slow and weak in the water; my ams had that heavy feeling, that is caused by fatigue.  At one point, I felt like quitting the workout early, but decided to push through, seeing as though I was already in the water.

My run this evening was even tougher.  It was still hot outside and also very humid, when it came time to begin.  To make matters worse, the scheduled run was a tough one and included two, ten minute threshold intervals.  The run turned out to be brutal, but once again, I was mentally strong and got it done.   My run clothes were saturated with sweat when I was finished (see today’s photo).

I was really pleased that I had the mental fortitude, to get my scheduled workouts done today.  With the fatigue and tough weather conditions, it would have been easy to quit.  Tomorrow is an easier day, workout wise. Hopefully I will recover a little, in time for another big weekend ahead.
