Comfort while riding a bike, is very important. If you are not comfortable, then your enjoyment is compromised and in addition, you will be unlikely to reach your potential as a cyclist. This is why a good bike fit, is money well spent.
I took my new Trek Emonda road bike in for a professional fit today. From riding the bike a few times, I knew that I needed some tweaks, so it was time to get things dialed in.
It turned out that I did need some changes. The bike fitter adjusted my saddle height and brought my saddle forward a little. At the front of the bike, I also needed a slightly shorter stem. I don’t think we moved anything more than a centimeter, but the small adjustments seem to have made a big difference.
It will take a few longer rides to be absolutely sure that my new fit is right, but so far all appears good. I am also sure that over time, as I get more accustomed to riding a road bike, things may change and I may need another fit. Maybe I will lower the front end a little… who knows?
What I do know is, that a regular bike fit is important. When was the last time you had one?
