I don’t need these now, but when the training load increases, these rice cakes really hit the spot.
I’m trying to keep myself busy while my leg recovers, so with extra time I had this evening, I decided to do a little cooking. I have a book called ‘Feed Zone Portables’, which has recipes for 75 different portable food snacks, designed to fuel professional cyclists. Every recipe I have tried so far, has been great.
The beauty of the portable foods, is that they are packed with carbohydrates and often protein too. The recipe I made tonight was for Chicken Curry Rice Cakes. Each one of the 24 rice cakes I made, contains about 35 grams of carbohydrate and 10 grams of protein, all in a little snack, a few bites big.
My rice cakes are now tucked away in my freezer, ready for when my I need them. I do like taking them with me on the bike outside, as they usually de-frost nicely in time for a re-fueling stop. They taste much better than the usual gels or chews.
I think I will make something else from the book later this week. I have my savory item done, so next time it will be something sweet. It’s always good to have desert in your pocket on a bike ride …
Quick footnote : My website is pretty basic right now. I chose to start sharing first, rather than spending time making the website complete before launching the blog. I’m looking forward to building the website over time into a useful resource for you .. just another part of my ‘life’ that you will get to read about.
