My workout schedule for today consisted of a 50 minute run, with three threshold intervals of 2 minutes each. I was done with the workout by 6.30 this morning.
Prior to being forced to work from home by the pandemic, this is the type of run, that I would have done after finishing work for the day. In fact, I would do pretty much all of my workouts, in the evenings during the week.
I would do these workouts after work, because I was just not good at getting up early enough, to do them before work. I would typically go to bed late and this had the knock-on effect, of having to get up late to ensure that I got enough sleep.
Since I started working from home however, things have changed. I’m not sure why, but I have been getting myself to bed, much earlier. This, in turn, has meant I have been waking up earlier. By waking up earlier, I have been doing a lot of workouts, before starting work for the day. I have to say I like it!
The main benefit, has been the ability to do other things in the evenings. I can tackle small jobs around the house, relax with my family or do other things, like last night when I waxed my chain. I feel so much more productive and relaxed.
The key test will come when I have to go back to working in the office. With the added commute time, I will need to do my workouts even earlier. I think I will try to do that, it just means that I will have to be ruthless, about getting to bed early too.
