I decided to take a few days off from training, after my ultramarathon last Saturday. Yesterday however, I decided it was time to get back to working out, and I continued that theme today. I have started off with a couple of Zone 2 runs.
Normally, after a big race, I don’t start my training by doing run workouts. An easy bike ride or a swim is more typical. Running is hard on the body, so I usually start running a little later.
I chose to run this week, mostly because that was what I was motivated to do. I was really happy with how my legs were feeling after the ultramarathon, and so I wanted to ‘try them out’.
My run yesterday went really well. It was only just over thirty minutes long, but my legs felt amazingly strong. They felt so good, that I decided to run again this morning. Again, the legs felt good, and so I ran a little further today.
I have decided that I want to try and increase my weekly mileage to a little higher than it has been the last few years. This is because I am focused on running well at the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon. I will initially increase the mileage by doing more Zone 2 runs. Time on my feet is more important than speed right now, so running easy will be the key.
I will be making it three days in a row of running tomorrow. I will be doing a long run with the City of Bridges Run Club.
