Got the news today that the 2020 edition of SwimRun NC will not be taking place. I will be deferring my entry to 2021.
This race cancellation was upsetting, when I first heard about it. I have never done a SwimRun event and was really looking forward to the challenge. I was hoping, that because it was a relatively small event, that it might still go ahead, but it is not to be.
I now have only one event on the calendar, that has not yet been cancelled, Ironman Chattanooga. To be honest, I am going to be surprised if this goes ahead as planned, but for now, I am training as if it is.
Even if that last race gets cancelled, I still will not stop training. I love the training and the feeling that I am healthy and strong. I am lucky to be able to do this sport and will work at it, for as long as I can.
I know many people are struggling with motivation without races, but for some reason I am OK with it. Do I want to race? Absolutely I do, and I am sure that one day, I will do so again. But in the meantime, I train. I train because it makes me happy and that would be my advice to anyone struggling with motivation; do what makes you happy.
So I keep on smiling and moving forward. Tonight it was an easy effort bike ride. The weather was perfect and my ride was great.
