While sheltering inside from the oppressive heat outside, I started my journey to becoming a USA Triathlon Certified Coach today.
When I started this blog, almost six months ago, I wanted to share my daily triathlon journey, in order to help others lead a healthy lifestyle. Over that time, I have realized that helping others achieve their goals, is really enjoyable. In fact, seeing others succeed, is in many ways, even more satisfying than achieving my own goals.
In the past, I have have helped others with their training, in an informal way. I now want to step up and become an actual coach. I am hopeful that this will enable me to help even more people over time.
The process of becoming a USAT Certified Coach starts with the online “Foundations” course, that I completed today. As part of that course, you are encouraged to draft an initial “Coaching Philosophy”. I have copied what I wrote below. I am sure it will evolve over time, but this is what I think for now. I hope you like it.
- To provide the support and knowledge, that will help my athletes lead happy, healthy lives and achieve success in endurance sports.
- My goal, through a high level of communication, is to enable my athletes to remain injury-free, while embracing the process of improvement and having fun.
- I want my athletes to become the best that they can be, regardless of experience, ability, gender or age.
