The seasons are changing and the number of daylight hours are starting to get smaller and smaller. There always comes a time, when my morning runs begin in the dark. That time has been this week.
My 45 minute easy pace run started in the dark this morning. Fortunately, the temperature was perfect and by the time I was done, it was daylight. In the run block that I am currently doing, I spend a lot of time running at an easy pace. It’s the best thing for building base run fitness.
I view these shorter, easy pace runs as deposits into my fitness bank. When saving money, consistently putting aside a small amount every week, eventually builds a nice pile of cash. It’s the same with running; consistently doing short easy runs, eventually leads to great base fitness. And just like saving money, I think with running, you also get the benefit of compound interest. You get more fitness, through consistent short runs compared to doing the occasional longer workout, even if total time over a month, is the same for both approaches.
So another 45 minutes was deposited into my bank this morning. I don’t have to make a withdrawal any time soon, so when I eventually do, I should be able to make a big one!
