The weather turned cold for this first week of my training year. In fact it was not only cold, but for a few days, it was also foggy. The photo above was taken at the end of my run on Wednesday and shows the fog and mist above an icy Marshall Lake in North Park.
For the start of this year, I have decided that my initial focus will be on running. I did a lot of indoor cycling leading into the Holidays, so I thought it would be a good time to change things up a little. I ended up running five times this week. Four of those runs were on the road and one was on trails.
Here are the details of my run workouts for the week:
- Monday – 60 Minute Recovery Pace Run
- Wednesday – 60 Minute Aerobic Run
- Thursday – 45 Minute Recovery Pace Run
- Saturday – 80 Minute Aerobic Run
- Sunday – 70 Minute Recovery Trail Run
Ready For A Cold Run In North Park
With the more than five hours of running, I was able to put in my highest number of weekly miles since early October last year. My total for the week was 33.5 miles.
The only other workout that I did last week, was a bike session on Tuesday. It was a hard effort session, with 4 x 10 minute intervals. My legs were tired after that one, but they did recover well for my run the next day. I took a day off on Friday; I was planning to ride my bike, but having spent all day working around the house, I chose to skip a workout and rest instead.
My favorite workout of the week was my trail run on Sunday. I originally planned to run for about 50 minutes, but I was feeling so good, and enjoying myself so much, that I added on another 20 minutes. The woods are so quiet this time of year. I saw more deer than people, and the trails were in pretty good shape after a lot of rain.
My training year continues this upcoming week, with lots more running. I am also thinking of kicking off a strength and mobility program too. More about that in next week’s blog.
