It’s amazing what a simple 20 minute run can do for motivation. My 20 minute run yesterday, has me all fired up to race.
The fact that I was finally able to run successfully, has given me a huge motivational boost. I have just over ten weeks until my first race of the year at Ironman 70.3 Chattanooga. That’s plenty of time for a really good training block.
Even with my injuries, I have been able to stay active with both swimming and cycling. That has helped me maintain a reasonable amount of base fitness. I can now build on that base, and be reasonably confident that I can arrive in Chattanooga in great race shape.
I got up early and went to the pool before work this morning. I had a great swim; working hard over a set of 20 x 100 yard intervals on twenty seconds rest. I just felt strong today, but really I think I was just so happy to be finally starting a big training block.
Triathlon training is a process, and there are always, ups and downs. These past two months have been tough, but I am really pleased with how patient I have been. The last thing I needed was a relapse and set back.
I still need to be and will be patient with my running, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel now. These next ten weeks are going to be fun…
Quick footnote : My website is pretty basic right now. I chose to start sharing first, rather than spending time making the website complete before launching the blog. I’m looking forward to building the website over time into a useful resource for you .. just another part of my ‘life’ that you will get to read about.
