I decided that I would write a quick update about the journey to my ‘racing weight’ today. It’s ironic therefore, that we decided as a family, to treat ourselves to fried chicken for dinner tonight.
Actually, eating fried chicken, is a rare treat these days. I have been doing well with my nutrition, since I began my ‘racing weight’ journey back at the end of December. So far, I would estimate that I am about two thirds of the way towards where I think I want to be. I am quite a bit lighter, and definitely leaner.
While I am doing better at eating healthily, I have struggled lately with tracking my food intake. This has coincided with when I started ‘working from home’. The lack of food tracking hasn’t caused me to lose any progress on my journey, but I have lost some visibility, into how well I am fueling for workouts. I haven’t had any workouts where I felt weak lately, so I guess I am still fueling adequately.
I find it interesting that I am still motivated to get lean for racing, even with all the uncertainty about when I will actually race again. I do know however, that you can’t rapidly lose weight to get lean, and still expect to race well. Like everything else in triathlon, this ‘racing weight’ journey, is all one big experiment. It is one that I committed to doing this year, so it makes me happy that so far, it has been very successful.
