In my blog yesterday I wrote about how my legs, and my quads in particular, were burning after a hard bike workout. My muscles were still sore when I got into bed, and as I fell asleep, I remember thinking that my run today was likely going to be painful.
My legs were also a little sore when I woke up this morning. This feeling is not unusual and typically goes away after I get moving for a few minutes. Sure enough as the morning went on I started to feel better.
I had a bunch of chores I wanted to get done in the yard today, so I spent several hours working hard to get those things done. While doing these chores, the fact that I still had a run to do, was constantly on my mind. It was not a good feeling; I was convinced that after the hard bike session yesterday and working in the yard today, my run was going to be painful.
Late afternoon, I finished up in the yard and got changed into my run clothes. I was ready to go run, but waited a few minutes because of something special. Our local first responders were doing a ‘drive through’ of every neighborhood. It was really cool. Everyone came out of their houses to say ‘thank you’. The whole ‘parade’ lasted only a couple of minutes, but it was so inspirational.
So now it was time to run. I set off up the street, expecting it to feel painful. The reality … totally the opposite. I felt really strong and as my run progressed, I felt even better. My run today was probably the best run I have had all year. Not sure if it was that parade that inspired me, but whatever it was, I felt great.
I just goes to show; however you feel, put on your run shoes and take that first step. You never know what might happen…
