A Run Down Memory Lane Was A Lot Of Fun

Tomorrow will be a travel day, so I needed to get my long run done today.  I wasn’t sure where to go, so I spent a few minutes looking at a map of the local area.  While looking at the map, I recognized so many places from when I lived here, over 25 years ago. It became clear that I should take a run down memory lane.

It was not a great day for a long run; it was raining a little, and the wind was incredibly strong. Nonetheless, I dressed appropriately and headed out the door.  The first few miles of the run, led me through areas that were not that familiar to me, but after that I started to recognize a lot of things.

I saw shops that were still pretty much the same after 25 years.  The local High Street was very familiar and busy, like it always was on a Saturday morning.  Silly little things and memories entered my mind.

  • I saw the place where I got my first pair of spectacles and got back the gift of long distance vision.
  • I passed the gas (petrol) station, where I stopped to buy newspapers on the day our daughter was born.  I remembered how it was late at night, and I hoped they still had copies that I could buy as keepsakes.
  • I ran past the house that I lived in when my wife and I were first dating.  It is in today’s photo.
  • I ran past a pub, where I remember (vaguely) celebrating the stag night of a friend from work.
  • I saw the first house that my wife and I ever owned.  I don’t know how we ever afforded it back then, but somehow we made it work.

This was a special run.  I lived here for years and today, it only seemed like yesterday, that we left for a life in America.  I loved my trip down memory lane.

Phill you made me shed a little tear reading this. I feel I shared so many memories of your memories. Happy happy days. Especially the day Rachel was born. I rang Sarah to see how she was feeling( a few days overdue) she answered saying, ‘Hello Grandma,’
