Today was all about rest and recovery. The goal was to help my legs recover, from the hard workouts that I did last weekend. With good recovery, I should be able to get back to my normal workout schedule tomorrow.
Rest days don’t necessarily mean, that all you do is rest. Even on rest days, I typically do something to further aid recovery. Something that I did today, was an ‘active recovery’ bike ride.
First thing this morning, I went down to the basement and got onto my bike. I put it into an easy gear and started to peddle. Keeping the power very low, I eventually got into a rhythm. The only purpose of this ‘workout’ was to get my legs moving. I needed to move my legs, without using a lot of energy.
I was on the bike for an hour. At first, my cadence was quite low, but as I warmed up, the cadence got gradually faster. By the end of the ride, I was spinning away quite freely, but was still only pushing very low power.
Aside from the ride, I have spent time doing some self massage. I have also worked to stay really hydrated. I hoping that the combination of these little things, will result in me feeling much better tomorrow morning.
