Aside from my swims in the endless pool at the C26 Hub, I haven’t swum in about a month. Given that I have a race this weekend, I decided to make a quick trip to the lake this evening.
I wanted to do a quick swim, just to get a little bit of feel for the water and to build some confidence going into the race. We have had some warm weather lately, so I think it is going to be borderline for a wetsuit legal race. With this in mind, I wanted to get in a non-wetsuit, open water swim.
I didn’t swim for long. I swam about the same distance that the race will be at the weekend and it went well. I am ready to have a nice steady swim to start my race.
I also spent some time prepping my bike today. I did a thorough check of things like cables and brakes. I removed the bottle cage from the down tube; I won’t need a bottle there and so I might as well takes the slight aero benefit. I put on a freshly waxed chain, which I will break in tomorrow by doing a short ride. This short ride will also enable me to make sure my shifting is working well too.
I had pasta for dinner tonight to keep my carbohydrate levels up high and have been drinking plenty of fluids. Now I need to get to bed early, so I can get plenty of sleep. Work has been quite demanding so far this week and I need the rest.
Hopefully, these simple things will result in a successful race. It looks to be my only race this year and I am so excited about it.
