Balancing life and triathlon can be tough. One thing that I sacrificed, as I got ready for racing Ironman Chattanooga, was a Friday night out with friends.
Ironman training blocks typically have long bike rides and long runs, at weekends. As a result, I normally spent Friday nights at home. Those evenings were used to rest up ahead of the big workouts.
Now that my big race is over, I am once again able to enjoy a Friday night out. This evening, my wife and I joined members of our local triathlon club at a local brewery. I enjoyed a couple of beers, some great conversation and street tacos from a food truck. It was a fantastic night out.
After a week of suffering through the after effects of my race, I am starting to feel much better today. I was able to do a 45 minute spin on the bike trainer, and it was not at all painful. I think I will do the same thing tomorrow.
It is not off-season yet, because I still have SwimRun NC to do. The reduced training volume does however mean, that I am much more easily able to balance life and triathlon.
