I had a double swim day. I don’t think that I have ever had a day where I have swum two times. I was only scheduled to do one swim workout, but on such a beautiful evening, I couldn’t resist going to the lake.
My pool workout this morning was quite a long one for me. The main set was 24 x 100, and the total yardage was 3,400 yards. By the end of the session, I was getting a little fatigued, and could feel my form starting to slip. Nonetheless, it was a good swim and I went home happy and hungry.
During the summer months, our local race director holds an open water swim session, every Monday evening at Moraine State Park. The two-hour, lake swim, takes place in the same lake as my upcoming race this weekend. So, despite being a little fatigued from my morning swim, I decided to go to the lake this evening. I wanted to get a feel for the lake ahead of Sunday.
The water temperature was 68’F this evening, which felt quite nice in my wetsuit. I was very pleased with my swim in the lake. I was able to get into a good rhythm quite quickly, and was even comfortable when a pack of fast swimmers, swam right over me. I did three loops at the lake. I could have done more, but decided to save some energy, knowing I have a race this weekend.
I ended up swimming about 5,000 yards on my double swim day. That is some really nice volume, and something I may do more often. I don’t think I am swimming enough right now, to make the gains I would like to see in my swim.
